Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpanagar, Mirsarai, Chittagong 2021
BPBL industrial complex: Berger Paints Bangladesh Limited intends to develop its 3rd factory complex at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar, Mirsharai, Chattogram. The facility would be constructed in 2 phases over a period of 10 years’ timeline
Location: The site is strategically located at the end of the eastern side of the Bay of Bengal, 10km west of national highway and 11.5km west of nearby railway station. Also, Shah Amanat International airport being situated at a distance of 79 km, opens up lots of avenues in the connectivity aspect of the site.
The site: A 40-acre land having roads on three sides has been allocated for this visionary project. The business hub area and the Sheikh Hasina Shorobor is very close to the site bringing advantages of different magnitude to the project.
Key design strategies: Ensuring a healthy working environment is the prime goal for both the workers and the employees. Different amenities such as bicycle route, shuttle bus route, playfield, gardens, waterbody, electric vehicle charging stations etc have been incorporated in the design to enhance efficiency of work. Both productive and recreational landscape elements have been introduced to maintain a healthy balanced working environment in the BPBL complex.
Approach to the site: The direction of the traffic flow on the adjacent roads determines the entry and exit way of the BPBL factory complex. Two separate entry and exit have been designed to separate heavy and light vehicle entry to the site for better traffic management
Safety and Security concern: The overall approach of the masterplan is to always prioritize the safety and security of both the workers and the production flow of the BPBL complex by providing ample number of open/buffer spaces between production blocks, ensuring grouping of hazardous and non-hazardous zones and protecting them with landscape belts and circulation roads on all sides.
Specia Features: Shared Street concept, Rain water harvesting from approx. 18000 sqm roof area, reducing travel distance of the vehicles circulating inside the site, use of extensive solar panels, bicycle track, shuttle service, fire station, dedicated truck parking with drivers’ facility are few of the design elements that are worth mentioning.
Landscape: Being situated at the heart of biodiversity hub of the coastal Bangladesh, a sensitive approach has been taken that is sensitive to this biodiversity, encourages green infrastructure to blur the robust factory expression with clean, easily maintained contemporary landscape design in alignment with LEED
