QA Garments, currently located in Tejgaon, Dhaka, Abedin Garments Limited operates within a privately owned industrial area noted for its unique spatial layout and productive environment. To enhance its production capabilities, the company is integrating alternative green and clean industries alongside its traditional facilities. As part of this expansion initiative, Abedin Garments has allocated 8.19 acres of land in Madhabdi, Narshingdi approximately an hour’s drive from Dhaka city center. It is located on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway, a major thoroughfare that provides easy access to the city center and other prominent cities. The urban fabric of the site is diverse, encompassing industrial, agricultural, and rural areas.
WAQFI industrial zone, which will specialize in the production of knit fabric garments. This area will feature essential amenities including the main production unit, warehouses equipped with efficient racking and storage systems, an Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), management facilities, and streamlined loading and unloading infrastructure designed to optimize worker productivity.
To realize the client’s vision, our approach focuses on integrating various strategies that complement production facilities. This includes Biophilic architecture, extensive rainwater harvesting and reuse, widespread use of solar energy to minimize electricity consumption, and strategic use of local vegetation to mitigate the heat island effect of asphalt surfaces. A key feature of the design is the creation of a green corridor with pedestrian walkways, fostering a pleasant environment amidst the industrial setting.
Global workplace studies highlight that a significant portion of workers lack natural light and exposure to nature, contributing to increased stress levels. Research by ISS underscores that employees in green environments are more inspired and less anxious compared to those without such amenities. Our strategy aims to integrate these findings, creating an environment where production and nature coexist harmoniously. Upon leaving the factory, workers are greeted by lush greenery and water features, contributing to a healthier work environment alongside production facilities.
